3. Jozef Búda Award

Jozef Búda Award (JBA) is granted by the editors of StBiSl to an individual for professional and scientific work in the field of exegesis and exegetical research in Slovakia and in the world in general. It is primarily a moral recognition for professional and scholarly work in the field of exegesis and exegetical research published mainly in the journal StBiSl. The contribution to the world of biblical studies in general is also taken into account. The prize has been awarded every two years since 2012.

The editors of Studia Biblica Slovaca granted the JBA for the first time in 2012. The first-ever award of this kind was given to the best lecture given during the 2012 Conference on Psalms in Badín (September 13 – 14, 2012). This was the first step by which the StBiSl editorial board started the tradition of awarding the best papers in the StBiSl biblical journal. The essence of the CJB award is primarily to express moral recognition for professional and scholarly work in the field of exegesis and exegetical research in Slovakia and in the world at large.

The award is named after Jozef Búda – one of the great personalities of Slovak biblical studies. 2012 marks the 70th anniversary of the appointment of this biblical scholar as Professor of the Old Testament at the Roman Catholic Cyril and Methodius Divinity Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava (1942).
