Abstract: In the tradition of the Church, the “fulfillment” of the Old Testament by the New has been commonly interpreted either as “overcoming” (the New substitutes the Old) or as “perfecting” (the New corrects the Old). The present contribution rejects these two perspectives and interprets fulfillment as “re-reading of the Old in a new situation”. The accent no longer falls upon substitution or perfecting, but rather upon rediscovery of the original sense and its primitive splendor.
