Jozef Búda Award
An award recognizing an outstanding contribution to the study of the Bible.
About the Award

The Joseph Búda Award (CJB) is conferred by the editorial board of StBiSl upon an individual in recognition of scholarly and academic work in the field of exegesis and exegetical research in Slovakia and internationally. The award primarily represents a form of moral recognition for scholarly and academic contributions in the field of exegesis and exegetical research published mainly in the journal StBiSl. Consideration is also given to the recipient’s broader contribution to the field of biblical studies. The award has been conferred biennially since 2012.
The editorial board of the journal Studia Biblica Slovaca conferred the CJB for the first time in 2012. Historically, the first award of this kind was granted to the best lecture delivered at the Conference Psalms 2012 in Badín (13–14 September 2012). This marked the first step in establishing the tradition of recognizing outstanding contributions published in the biblical journal StBiSl. The primary purpose of awarding the CJB is to express moral recognition for scholarly and academic work in the field of exegesis and exegetical research in Slovakia and worldwide.
The award is named after Jozef Búda, one of the major figures in Slovak biblical scholarship. In 2012, the 70th anniversary was commemorated of his appointment as Professor of the Old Testament at the Roman Catholic Cyril and Methodius Faculty of Theology of Comenius University in Bratislava (1942).
