Abstract
Psalm 8 would not at all be in praise of God on the basis of the greatness of man to whom royal power over creation has been granted. Rather, the psalmist is meditating on the complex relationship between God, man and creation, and this meditation is made on the basis of the text of Genesis 1-2. God wished to bestow on man power over all his possessions (Psalm 8,7-9) but on thinking it over he wanted to be sure that man would not want to take his place.

Róbert JÁGER
volume 1, issue 2, 2009, pages 146-165
DOI: https://doi.org/10.64438/sbsIUPQ7356
Abstract
What kind of literature do we recognize while reading the Gospels? The history of exegesis offers us a variety of perspectives, starting from a biography up to the novelistic writing or even a liturgical performance. The proposed paper briefly sketches the possible solutions given by scholars and further focuses on the biographical character of the Gospels, listing the correspondence between the Hellenistic, Biblical, Non-biblical writings and the Gospels. A special attention is given to the motif of imitatio Christi. The result of such investigation points toward an ancient bios – life of Jesus with specifically biblical character.
How Is It with a Bible Code?
Radoslav KOŠŠ
volume 1, issue 2, 2009, pages 166-177
DOI: https://doi.org/10.64438/sbsIURI2738
Abstract
The Bible code is a code, which can be found in the Bible by applying method of Equidistant Letter Sequence. Some consider it a scientific proof of God’s existence because according to them those codes are either so complicated, that no man could have created them, or they represent encoded expressions from future, therefore such codes had to be put there by all-knowing entity. These claims have been popularized by American journalist Michael Drosnin in his book The Bible Code. Critics argue, that such codes can be found in every book and as such, it is not a special event, but just a random combination of letters. This article is interested in origins and methods of the Bible code, compares arguments and objections to existence of such codes and tries to make conclusions in the context of contemporary exegesis.
