Abstract: The Bible code is a code, which can be found in the Bible by applying method of Equidistant Letter Sequence. Some consider it a scientific proof of God’s existence because according to them those codes are either so complicated, that no man could have created them, or they represent encoded expressions from future, therefore such codes had to be put there by all-knowing entity. These claims have been popularized by American journalist Michael Drosnin in his book The Bible Code. Critics argue, that such codes can be found in every book and as such, it is not a special event, but just a random combination of letters. This article is interested in origins and methods of the Bible code, compares arguments and objections to existence of such codes and tries to make conclusions in the context of contemporary exegesis.
